Whip-poor-will
This ugly little creature is the bird you hear during the nite calling out his name. If you have ever had one on your neighbors roof at 2 am, every night for a whole season, you will appreciate them much more from a distance.

Downy Woodpecker

Red Headed Woodpecker

Northern Flicker

Ruby Throated Hummingbird
This actually the only humming bird that visits us here in Iowa. Some people think we have two types, but the male has the ruby throat, the female does not.

Killdeer
No, this is not a sandpiper. Killdeers are those funny birds that act like they have a broken wing to distract a threat away from the nest.

Turkey Vulture
Beautiful they are not, but I suppose someone has to be responsible for all the road-kill.

Bald Eagle
I have seen the eagle 3 or 4 times over the years here. We think he may have a nest at the west end of the lake. One year he was here with a female and an immature eagle.
